F Lingard Ranson in his guide to Lavenham says the old Post Mill in Bears Lane was blown down in a gale many years ago. This mill is shown in the background on an engraving by Isaac Taylor, senior, c.1792. A copy of the drawing is below (from the Autobiography and other Memorials of Mrs Gilbert (formerly Ann Taylor). The mill was in existence by 1783 (Hodskinson map) and seems to have still been in existence in c.1835 (OS 1” map) but had disappeared by 1886 (OS 1:2500 map).
